  • PowerSchool data breach update

    BHRSD Families and Staff, As I shared last week, PowerSchool had a data breach. A huge number of districts were impacted. We continue to investigate its impact. With the exception of one staff person, no social security numbers were compromised. Here is a link to PowerSchool FAQ. We are working with both PowerSchool and our attorneys on next steps which may include them providing services to those impacted. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions.     Please see the periodically updated incident page as PowerSchool learns more information and takes additional steps in response to a recent security incident. What Happened On December 28, 2024, PowerSchool became aware of a potential cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) information through one of their community-focused customer portals, PowerSource. PowerSchool is not experiencing, nor does it expect to experience, any operational disruption and continues to provide services as normal to their customers.     All, As you know, we use PowerSchool to manage student data and some staff records related to classes and schedules. It appears that PowerSchool had a data breach that impacted our records. We are working with them to understand the impact. It looks like it includes teacher work data and student data. When I know more, I will share the next steps. Peter

  • When to return to school following illness

    Deciding when to keep your child home from school is not always easy. Your child needs to be in school, but when a student is sick, they need to be home resting to get well and prevent the spread of illness to others. Here are some helpful guidelines to help keep our school community healthy Fever-free (less than 100.0F) for at least 24 hours WITHOUT using Acetaminophen (Tylenol/Nyquil/Dayquil) or Ibuprofen (Motrin/Advil) products. These are fever-reducing medications. Gastrointestinal illnesses: No vomiting or diarrhea for at least 24 hours, and tolerating at least a bland diet without return of symptoms.
