Out-of-School Time Programming

The mission of out-of-school programming at BHRSD is to provide opportunities for students to receive academic intervention and advancement, extend school-day learning, facilitate personal growth, and develop social-emotional learning in an active, engaging, community environment.

At Community Learning & Enrichment Opportunities (CLEO) we support the growth of the whole student through active learning opportunities  which are collaborative, experiential, enriching, relevant, playful, and authentic.

CLEO Summer 2024

CLEO Summer Camp begins Wednesday July 10, 2024 at 8:30 AM

The program runs Monday through Thursday 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM and ends on: 

• August 1 for the high school, – there is still room in the high school program if you are interested. Complete the permission form and bus signup form below if you are a rising 9th, 10th, or 11th grader and would like to enroll.
• August 8 for the middle school and 
• August 15 for the elementary school.

Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided free of charge.

COMMUNICATIONS

Primary communication will be via email from jp.okin@bhrsd.org, molly.gaschott@bhrsd.org, or aretha.whitehead@bhrsd.org. Please read these emails as they will contain important and timely information. (We are anticipating ongoing road construction this Summer and this may affect dropoffs and pickups.)

The only telephone number that should be used for CLEO is 413-717-9346. Text or voice. PLEASE clearly identify yourself with first and last name and your child with first and last name when texting.

In cases of early pickups, please allow at least 2 hours so that we can get notifications to the correct staff.

PICKUP and DROPOFF

The program begins at 8:30. Free breakfast is served. Students may be dropped off as early at 8:00, but please note that there will not be any planned activities until 8:30.

Pickup is at 3:30 PM.

(We are anticipating ongoing road construction this Summer and this may affect dropoffs and pickups.)

Please drop off your child at the rear of W.E.B Du Bois Middle School at the door labeled C133. ALL programs will be at the middle school, regardless of age group.

INSECT REPELLENT AND SUNSCREEN

Please apply sunblock and insect repellent prior to sending your child to school. The school can provide these to students but cannot apply them. Students must apply themselves. Student may also bring their own sunscreen and insect repellent for self-application. 

TRAVEL

The CLEO program may involve travel of not more than 15-minutes’ drive from the school using the small buses owned by the district and driven by an adult member of CLEO staff. Parents will be notified of specific field trip locations ahead of time via email. 

WET ACTIVITIES

Some activities may involve water play (not swimming). You will be notified via email in advance of those events. Please provide your child with a bathing suit, towel, and dry clothes for those days.

PERSONAL EQUIPMENT

Please label all personal items with your child’s first and last names. Children should bring hats and water bottles and may bring their own food, sweatshirts, backpacks, etc.

Children should dress for the weather. Sturdy shoes are recommended. Please avoid crocs and sandals. Socks should be worn. Hats are recommended.

CELL PHONES and ELECTRONICS

Cell phones, smart watches, airpods, and other personal electronic devices should be off and out of sight for the entirety of the program. Our preference is that students leave them at home. The school cannot be held responsible for damage to such devices.

GREENAGERS (Middle School only)

If your child is participating in the Greenagers program, this program takes place offsite most days. Students will typically leave the middle school at approximately 9:00 AM and returning at approximately 3:00 PM. You will receive additional information directly from this program.

SOCCER (Middle School only)

Students participating in Summer Soccer Camp are encouraged to bring their own cleats and shin guards. There will be cleats and shin guards available to borrow, but we cannot guarantee size and availability.

CLEO Verano 2024

Recoger y dejar en

El programa comienza a las 8:30. Se sirve desayuno gratuito. Los estudiantes pueden ser dejados a las 8:00, pero tenga en cuenta que no habrá actividades planificadas hasta las 8:30.

Ruta de recogida y regreso

REPELENTE DE INSECTOS Y PROTECCIÓN SOLAR

Por favor aplique bloqueador solar y repelente de insectos antes de enviar a su hijo a la escuela. La escuela puede proporcionárselos a los estudiantes pero no puede aplicarlos. Los estudiantes deben esforzarse. Los estudiantes también pueden traer su propio protector solar y repelente de insectos para que ellos mismos los apliquen. 

VIAJAR

El programa CLEO puede implicar un viaje de no más de 15 minutos en automóvil desde la escuela utilizando los pequeños autobuses propiedad del distrito y conducidos por un miembro adulto del personal de CLEO. Los padres serán notificados con anticipación por correo electrónico sobre los lugares específicos de las excursiones. 

ACTIVIDADES HÚMEDAS

Algunas actividades pueden implicar juegos acuáticos (no nadar). Se le notificará por correo electrónico antes de dichos eventos. Por favor proporcione a su hijo traje de baño, toalla y ropa seca para esos días.

EQUIPO PERSONAL

Etiquete todos los artículos personales con el nombre y apellido de su hijo. Los niños deberán traer gorros y botellas de agua y podrán traer su propia comida, sudaderas, mochilas, etc.

Los niños deben vestirse según el clima. Se recomiendan zapatos resistentes. Evite los cocodrilos y las sandalias. Se deben usar calcetines. Se recomiendan sombreros.

CELULARES Y ELECTRÓNICA

Los teléfonos móviles, relojes inteligentes, airpods y otros dispositivos electrónicos personales deben estar apagados y fuera de la vista durante todo el programa. Nuestra preferencia es que los estudiantes los dejen en casa. La escuela no se hace responsable de los daños a dichos dispositivos.

GREENAGERS (solo escuela secundaria)

Si su hijo participa en el programa Greenagers, este programa se lleva a cabo fuera del sitio la mayoría de los días. Por lo general, los estudiantes saldrán de la escuela intermedia aproximadamente a las 9:00 a. m. y regresarán aproximadamente a las 3:00 p. m. Recibirá información adicional directamente de este programa.

FÚTBOL (solo escuela secundaria)

Se anima a los estudiantes que participan en el campamento de fútbol de verano a que traigan sus propios zapatos y espinilleras. Habrá tacos y espinilleras disponibles para prestar, pero no podemos garantizar el tamaño ni la disponibilidad.
