Message from Mr. L

All the athletics!

On the Field, On the Court, and In the Snow: The Power of Middle School Sports!

Growing up, athletics was the glue that kept me tied to school every single day. I started running at age four and honestly never stopped! On Fridays, we proudly wore our track suits through the halls, and on weekends, our letter jackets were a badge of honor. I was lucky enough to also play soccer and run in high school and continue volleyball through college.  All this while diving into dozens of other sports along the way—from skiing and rock climbing to street hockey and basketball.  I've coached every sport I can get my hands on, but eight years with Elijah's Wildcats Little League team was my favorite.

That personal history is why I am so grateful for the incredible athletic culture here at Du Bois and across our district. Middle school is the absolute best time for kids to try a new sport, discover a fresh passion, or build new skills. The dedication from our district and community to keep our kids moving and playing means everything.

Here is a look at what’s happening across our athletic programs and how you can get involved:

What’s Building & Expanding
  • More Opportunities for Girls’ Hoops: A big thank you to the School Committee for recently supporting the addition of our middle schoolers to the girls' JV basketball program!
  • Volleyball is Back: Mr. Vittum and Ms. Mason are returning for another fantastic season of after-school volleyball.
  • Seamless Transitions: As Mr. Naventi wraps up coaching the playoff bound Boy's MMRHS soccer team, he’s pivoting right back to support our indoor season here at Du Bois.

Get Out and Cheer on Our Teams!
  • Unified Basketball: Today, our very own Ms. Rizzo is coaching the Unified Basketball team up at Wahconah alongside many of our stellar students!
  • Boys’ JV Soccer Jamboree: Head over to MMRHS tomorrow morning from 9:00 to 11:30 AM to catch the boys in action and bring the noise.
  • SAVE THE DATE — Harlem Wizards vs. District Staff! 🏀. Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 1st at 3:00 PM at MMRHS! Come watch our brave district staff take on the high-flying Harlem Wizards in what promises to be an insanely fun afternoon for the whole family.

Winter Sports Spotlight: Skiing at Butternut We are thrilled to partner once again with Ski Butternut this winter to offer heavily discounted group lessons for our students! If your child is interested, don't wait: early registration fees expire on November 15th.

Thank you all for being such an encouraging audience for our young athletes. See you on the sidelines!  Go Pats, Go C's, Go B's and here's to next year Sox!

Sports Equipment Drive

Hello! I'm Sage Kruh, an 8th grader at DuBois, and I'm running a sporting equipment drive to collect used items for kids in Berkshire County. From now until Thanksgiving Break, there will be a collection box near the main office at school, and we are looking for basketballs, indoor soccer balls, baseball bats and helmets, t-ball gloves, swim goggles, sport-specific shoes, ice skates, cones, and other equipment. Please only donate items in relatively good condition, and thank you so much for giving.

Arrivals and Dismissals

Arrival and Dismissal
We have had great attendance this month.  A huge thanks to all of our families and our amazing bus drivers for getting kids out the door and ready to learn.  I may have handed out a few munchkins to kids who made it on-time so they would thank you and their bus drivers.

Thank you also to the 7th and 8th grade families for going the extra distance in dropping off in the back.  It has made both arrival and dismissal much easier.
